Key points

  • Use a small, springy bounce instead of a heavy stomp.
  • Keep the rhythm even so the rope has a predictable window to pass through.
  • Stay tall and relaxed through the torso while the feet do quick work.
  • Let each landing be quiet and soft to save energy.
  • A better bounce makes every other jump-rope skill easier.

Bounce!

The bounce is the foundation underneath every jump-rope skill. When it is light and repeatable, the rope has a predictable window to pass through. When it is heavy or inconsistent, even simple skipping becomes harder than it should be.

Stay light

Think small and springy. You only need enough height for the rope to clear the feet. Quiet landings are a good sign that you are staying relaxed and not wasting energy.

Make rhythm automatic

A steady bounce gives your hands something to match. Once the rhythm becomes automatic, the rest of the skills have a much easier place to land.
