Key points

  • Keep the side swing compact so the rope stays easy to control.
  • Use the wrists to guide the rope path instead of throwing the shoulders around.
  • Keep bouncing while the rope travels beside you so the rhythm never stops.
  • Return the rope to center only after the side swing feels smooth.
  • Treat the side swing as a transition, not a pause.

The Sidekick Swing

The Sidekick Swing teaches you how to move the rope beside your body without losing rhythm. It is one of the most useful transition skills because it lets you recover, reset timing, or prepare a new move while your feet keep working.

Keep it compact

The move works best when the rope path stays close and controlled. Guide the rope with the wrists and keep the shoulders relaxed. If the swing gets huge, it becomes harder to bring the rope back in front of you cleanly.

Keep bouncing

Do not freeze while the rope is at your side. Keep a small bounce going so your feet and hands stay connected. Once the rhythm feels steady, bring the rope back to the center and continue skipping.
